One of the best left-hand waves in the world breaks here, over a shifting sandbank at the mouth of the Urdaibai estuary. It can run for hundreds of metres and form a perfect barrel; only for those who know. Behind it, a fishing village of narrow lanes and the church of Santa María looking out to the water. A Biosphere Reserve since 1984. They say even a Scottish princess once took refuge in this estuary. You have to watch it break to understand.
