The only windmill still standing in Getxo. It was built in 1727, when a long drought left the water mills of the Lordship of Bizkaia dry and they had to turn to the wind. It ground maize: fine flour for talo, coarse flour for the livestock.

It stopped grinding more than two centuries ago. And yet, since 1967 Getxo Town Council has used its shape as the trophy for every competition it holds. The mill that stopped grinding became a symbol. It stands at La Galea, where the coastal walk to Sopelana begins.
